Usability Expertise
Usability or HCI expertise is vital for communicating to developers ideas and changes that enhance an open source project's usability. Such expertise comes in different flavors depending on the application's domain and the stage of development. We don't really know what the role of usability expertise is in proprietary development, nor do we know what it is in FLOSS development, but in both environments (although each environment differs within) communicating HCI expertise to developers and other stakeholders is essential to making arguments for changes that effect an application's usability.
